Abstract

The article contains reminiscences of the Head of Botany Department of Leningrad University from 1978 to 1990, Professor Vladimir Mikhailovich Schmidt about the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the siege of Leningrad, the evacuation with VIR (All-Union Institute of Plant Industry) employees, and a military school. Special attention is placed on his meeting with Minyaev N. A., which predetermined V. M. Schmidt`s interest in botany.
