Abstract

The article discusses history and development of Algology at the Department of Botany from 1854 to the present time (2013). It identifies main stages of formation of ecology-floristic studies of algae, method of «diatom analyses», associated with the major scientists who created new directions in the science of algae. In addition, it contains a biography data. Stressed the importance of the University School of algology in the development of science of algae.
